It’s important that the so-called “fan filter” in the hood is clean. Otherwise, you get the cooking odors inside your room instead, and also, the fire alarm begins to howl a lot easier.
The hood is included in an advanced ventilation system, and if there’s a lot of dirt on the filter, there’s a risk that all ventilation in the house disappears, or goes into a turn.
This is especially important if you live in a radon house. One of the hood’s tasks is to vent the carcinogenic alpha particles present in the radon gas.

Here’s how to clean the fan filter:

1. Snap the fan filter out of the hole above the stove.
2. Rinse the sink with hot water and detergent.
3. Put the entire fan filter (including plastic protection) in the sink.
4. Let it sit overnight.
5. The following day, wash the plastic cover and fan filter thoroughly under running water, with a sponge or with a brush.
6. Dry the fan filter.
7. Put the fan filter back in the hole over the stove.

Extra tip:
It may be helpful to ask for an additional fan filter, so that you always have twofilters to switch between.
