Television sound limiter – The simple way:

- Review on how to volume control your television -

.

Do you need to limit the sound of your TV ?

But are not sure how ?

- We’ll teach you how to limit the volume on a television set !

You may need to set a specific sound level on a TV ? – Maybe you have a child who always raises the volume so that the walls will shake, or maybe you have an old father-in-law who always presses the wrong button so the sound goes up ?

- Then it’s best to set a volume limit before your neighbors start to complain and you’re likely to get evicted !

    Television with bawling sound

Image of a TV, with the sound screaming out of the speakers

What we’re gonna do is removing the buttons that control the volume and put a pair of sticky patches where the buttons were.

In that way, you always get the factory-set audio on the TV. – And if you think the volume level is wrong, just change the settings on the TV. Of course there are a lot of various models of remote controls, but the principle applies to all:

Volume buttons on a Remote control

.

Here’s how to – 3 easy steps

Step 1. You can start by setting the desired volume:

    Set desired sound volume

    Set the volume

Step 2. Then take a screwdriver and winkle one of the volume buttons:

Remove one of the sound buttons

.

Pull the sound levelar out of its bracket

.

Image of the removed sound button

.

Then do the same with the second volume button:

    Remove the second volume button

.

   Removed sound button

.

Now you can see the circuit board through the holes, where the volume buttons were:

    Image of removed sound buttons

.

Step 3. Now cover the holes by placing a pair of sticky patches:

    Sticky patches over the holes

.

Don’t forget to keep the volume buttons in a safe place, so that you can reinstate them at a later time:

    Keep the buttons

.

Deeper audio information

It may be important to be able to limit the volume on a TV – to prevent the sound from rising unchecked.

It is often very easy to unconsciously access the volume buttons, because the button / buttons often have a central position on the remote control.

In addition, it may happens that you are sitting on the remote control (which often ends up in the couch, for some reason), or in the middle of the night you happen to lay on the remote control so that the volume rages in height.

You may get hearing loss from having too high volume on your TV.

However, by removing the volume buttons on the remote control, you’re getting better control over the volume, since you get the factory-set audio on the TV.

Good luck !

Trackball Mouse Repair – that’s how to:

- Review on how to fix a tired scroll mouse -

.

Do you need to repair an old tired trackball mouse ?

But are not sure how to do ?

We’re going through how to freshen up a worn out trackball mouse !

Perhaps you have a trackball mouse at home, which after years of use has become inert and tired ?

Buying a new trackball mouse is not an option for a lot people, since a high-quality trackball mouse can cost as much as 250 dollars (210 Euros). But it’s actually possible to repair a trackball mouse yourself, and increase it’s life-span.

Trackball mice are often worn out earlier than other mice, because the construction makes it easier for the mouse to inhale dirt from above and also that you tend to use the mouse more carelessly, due to the ball’s placement on the top:

Image of a random trackball mouse

Image of a random trackball mouse

There are many various kinds of trackball mice, but the mutual thing for all, is that the control ball is placed on the top of the mouse. Trackball mice are very commonly used by gamers, but also by authorities and by people with disabilities:

Exemple trackball mouse …. Example trackball mouse

Example trackball mouse …. Example trackball mouse

.

The weak spot of a trackball mouse is often the contact between the ball and the rollers. It’s somewhere here that the mouse gets timeworn. The mouse gets frayed faster if you spin the ball negligently:

.

To access the mouse, just turn the mouse and remove the cover by unscrewing the screws (the orange arrows):

.

The orange arrows show the rollers that lie against the ball. The blue arrow points at the actual ball. There needs to be proper friction between the rollers and the ball, so that the mouse responds to a touch. And what happens after many years of use is that friction decreases, as the parts are jammed of strain:

Close-up of gear and roller

To make the trackball mouse as new again, remove the rolls and attach some silicone or latex to them. Then let it dry for a while before putting the parts back.

It is important to seal the contact between the rollers and the ball. Good luck !

.

Additional information:

If you want to quickly improve a scroll mouse, you can turn the mouse up and down and shake it.

Then the moving parts settle and the mouse begins to respond to touch again.

.

What is really a trackball mouse ?

A trackball mouse is a computer mouse that has the navigation on the top, which makes you work more with your fingers and not as much with your wrist.

Using a trackball mouse can reduce the risk of stress injuries when working a lot with a computer, as the movements become a bit more natural.

The disadvantage of trackball mice is that they are often more expensive than regular mice.

Busy Tone when calling a contact – How to fix !

- Instructions on removing a busy tone when calling a contact on a smartphone -

.

Is it always busy when you call a certain contact ?

Calm down, we’ll help you !

- The error lays in the recipient’s phone !

Maybe you have a contact on your smartphone which you often call, but the line is always busy ?

Of course, it’s not that the person is talking to someone all the time and the line is busy,

but the problem is often that your contact has encountered a setting, that diverts your call to an answering machine.

You can easily, by mistake, check the box for [Call forwarding].

.

One way to solve this problem is to either delete the contact and re-enter the person,

or to enter the phone’s settings and uncheck that the call is forwarded to the voicemail.

You can also set how many signals you want to proceed before the voicemail is switched on.

If the contact has been blocked, it’s just to unblock the contact in the settings section.

Busy tone when calling a contact

The problem with today’s smart cell phones is that the screen is so small and it’s easy to access other buttons than those you would like to access.

This was not a problem at the time, but the smart phones certainly have a number of advantages as well.

Good luck !

Disable a Mouse Button – EASY !

- Learn how to disconnect one button on an external mouse -

.

Do you need to disable a mouse button ?

Are you disturbed by a button’s function ?

- We’ll teach you how to uninstall any button on your portable pointing device !

Sometimes it may be useful to be able to disconnect one of the buttons on a computer mouse. – You may want only one button to be in operation.

This may apply, for example, to government computers or computers used in trade shows, where visitors should use the computer to perform a task, – and to prevent the Function Menu from opening now and then:

Image of the Function Menu

Or maybe you are sitting at home and are annoyed that you, mistakenly, access one of the mouse buttons that opens a window on your computer…

We will now go through, partly how to disconnect a mouse button and also how to disconnect the scroll wheel.

Image of a computer mouse, where the red arrow points at the left mouse button and the green arrow points at the right mouse button.

The orange arrow points at the scroll wheel, which has the function of scrolling the page up and down and partly as a ‘navigation lock’ - – when pressing the scroll wheel. The navigation lock is used when you want to disable the scroll wheel and instead scroll by moving the mouse.

.

The tools you need to disable a mouse button, are screwdriver and pliers:

.

Here’s how you do it – Seven simple steps:

Step 1. Start by turning the mouse so that the bottom is directed towards you:

.

The red arrows show where the screws are placed, which we will unscrew to remove the outer cover.

.

Step 2. With the screwdriver, remove any plastic covers:

.

Step 3. Then unscrew the screws that clamp the chassis (counter clockwise):

.

Here’s what the mouse looks like when the chassis is removed. You can clearly see the circuit board – with the scroll wheel, the buttons and all resistors:

.

It’s one of these circuits that we are gonna remove. The left arrow points towards the circuit that controls the left mouse button and the green arrow points towards the circuit that controls the right mouse button:

.

Close to one of the buttons:

.

.

Step 4. Now you can cut off any circuit. We have chosen to disconnect the right mouse button, but of course you can remove the left mouse button instead, if you want.

.

Take care of the loose parts so that you can use them to reinstall the mouse button at a later moment:

.

Step 5. Reinstall the circuit board in the chassis:

.

Step 6. Assemble the mouse:

.

Step 7. Screw in the screws again (clockwise):

.

Finished ! Now, one mouse button is disabled. The red arrow points at the mouse button that is in use:

.

This is how you disconnect the scroll wheel:

Just take a pliers and remove the scroll wheel. – Remember to keep the wheel in a safe place so that you can reattach the wheel at a later time:

.

Image of the removed scroll wheel

.

To disable the scroll wheel button:

The scroll wheel also has a click function and when you click the scroll wheel, a kind of navigation lock - – pops up, which you can use when navigating a computer screen. To disable that feature, simply wipe the scroll wheel with a pliers:

.

Here you can see where the scroll wheel’s button was placed:

.

Conclusion

It may be very convenient to be able to disconnect one of the mouse functions. Additionally, you can compensate for the missing mouse button by using keyboard commands instead. This makes it easier to control what you’re doing at your computer. Good luck !
