Opening the Prada show is a benchmark in the career of any model. It means that you’ve impressed both Miuccia Prada and her influential casting director, Ashley Brokaw. Not to mention the fact that you’re walking in one of the entire season’s most avidly watched shows. Careers are made on the Prada runway, and several of modeling’s biggest names—Suvi Koponen, Lindsey Wixson, and Vanessa Axente among them—got their first taste of fame with a runway debut there. The “vagabond woman” at the heart of Fall’s extravagant show was brought to life by Lorena Maraschi, a waifish Brazilian newcomer with oversize brown eyes and a curly shag. Made up by Pat McGrath and Guido Palau backstage, Maraschi transformed into the collection’s muse. For a fashion aficionado, getting picked for Prada provided Maraschi with the chance to work alongside her heroes. “I always admired Miuccia!” says Maraschi via email from Milan. “It has always been my dream since I started modeling to work with Prada.”

Discovered while on vacation in New York, Maraschi was soon signed to Next Management. Taking to the runway at São Paulo Fashion Week to hone her skills, Maraschi walked for several of Brazil’s top designers before getting her big international break with a spot on Prada’s Fall menswear catwalk. Given the thematic connection between Prada’s Fall vision for men and women, it’s natural that there would be some overlap in casting, but Maraschi could never have predicted that she would be the one starting the show. “[Opening the show] was completely unreal,” says Maraschi. “I just wanted to go back and do it again, again, and again. I was so thrilled—the best feeling ever!”With Miu Miu on the horizon, there is a good chance that Maraschi may take to the runway for Miuccia one more time before the season wraps, but for now she’s content with enjoying her accomplishments—and the thrill of getting to wear one of Mrs. Prada’s creations. Says the model: “I really loved the stockings, the rich details of the shoes, the white corsets—well, everything!” Now that she has a few moments to relax post-Milan, Maraschi plans on getting in some of her favorite pastimes like yoga, exploring each new city, and trying some of that food Milan and Paris are famous for. Still, she can’t help but pinch herself now and then: “I still can’t believe it happened—dreams really do come true!”

“NO-GO-ZONER” Vid 19.30-tiden på tisdagskvällen var det oroligt vid Ramels väg i det illa beryktade, starkt invandrardominerade problemområdet Rosengård i Malmö. Flera bilar brann och eventuellt ska någon form av explosion skett. Mycket folk var i rörelse och det tog polisen en stund att säkra brandplatsen så att brandmännen kunde börja släcka.

Rather than counting down the days until spring break, why not soak up the present moment with one more romantic winter weekend getaway? After all, no other season invites such interpersonal proximity, if only for the sake of body warmth. For such close quarters, you’ll want to be sure you look, feel, and smell your best—and most effortless. For example, if you’re of the screen-detoxing, off-the-grid ilk, indulge in a few days of doing absolutely nothing but sharing a book, a blanket, and a forest-inspired unisex fragrance, or ignoring the clock from the comfort of a steaming bath in an Adirondacks cabin, redolent of herbal-spiked salts.
Urbanites can let New York City’s nippy temperatures guide them indoors, where a swipe of brick red lipstick will be all that’s necessary to go from Marcel Breuer’s Metropolitan Museum of Art retrospective to a warmly lit drink at Bemelmans. And adventurers would do well to head west for Telluride’s last gasp of fresh powder; there, a sport-minded sunscreen and a dual-action cheek and lip tint will help you lean in to the area’s après-ski allure. No matter your brand of romance, there’s a beauty bag to supplement your every winter yen—because there’s really no time like the present.

While it’s easy to describe singer and Vogue cover star Adele as beautifully old-fashioned—what with her powerful pipes, soulful lyrics, bawdy humor, and seemingly endless supply of 1950s June Carter–esque dresses—the custom Burberry look in which she kicked off her world tour last night could hardly be described as dated. Performing for an enraptured, sold-out audience on her tour’s first stop in Belfast, Ireland, the 27-year-old musician wore a black floor-skimming, hand-embroidered floral sequined gown from the British heritage brand. The dress will be the sole component of her wardrobe for the 25 tour, and while it will certainly cut down on costume changes, the gown stands as a new guidepost in Adele’s ever-evolving onstage ensembles.
After all, at the beginning of her impressive and relatively young career, Adele was an avid admirer of the nondescript little black dress, but quickly took a fancy to sparkling, ladylike frocks. From the glittery Burberry dress she sported to take home her Best Original Song Oscar in 2013 for “Skyfall” to last week’s midi-length Valentino frock bedazzled with the sequined effigy of the Empire State Building, Adele was reimagining the silhouette made famous by mid-century R&B divas Etta James and Ella Fitzgerald. Here, we take a look back at her chic onstage style evolution as she prepares to take on the world in rare form.

After months of dry, harsh winds and hot air spewing from radiators, not everyone’s skin is totally ready to embrace the no-makeup makeup trend. Luckily, spring’s newest foundations are designed to impart the sort of dewy glow that winter-weary faces tend to lack. Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Foundation, for instance, is formulated with hyaluronic acid spheres to hydrate and give skin a lit-from-within effect, while Clarins’s aptly named True Radiance with SPF 15 is packed with moringa seed extract to protect against harsh pollutants.
For a little less coverage, turn to The Estée Edit by Estée Lauder’s Skin Glowing Balm Makeup, which promises to transform dull skin with shea butter and primrose oil. And among spring’s most innovative technologies is the powder texture of Chanel’s Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation, which enhances your own glow while providing an almost sheer, invisible base. Here’s to a filter-free Instagram season ahead.

Software stability is a key requirement for large companies, and Hortonworks is taking a big step in that direction with a new release cadence for its enterprise Hadoop software.
Starting with the Hortonworks Data Platform 2.4, which is now available, the company is taking a two-pronged approach to updates. Specifically, it will update core Apache Hadoop components such as HDFS, MapReduce and YARN along with Apache Zookeeper annually, while extended services that run on top of those components -- including Spark, Hive, HBase and Ambari -- will be updated continuously throughout the year.

Frozen addiction happens slowly at first, then all at once. The origin story for many parents is some version of: “I put on Frozen so I could prepare or eat a meal in relative peace. The next thing I knew, my child is begging (or, rather, demanding) to watch Frozen thrice daily.” The reaction is so remarkable that there is even a conspiracy theory that Disney has embedded a form of hypnosis within the film. Following its release in 2013, Frozen became the highest-grossing animated film in history with more than $1.2 billion in ticket sales worldwide, and I’m sorry to remind you that Frozen 2 is currently in the works.
Upon first viewing this Nordic fairy tale, I was charmed: It’s not all about marrying a prince (although getting the guy remains a factor). The “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” sequence is adorable (“okay, byeeee”), beautifully animated, and includes a Joan of Arc reference for adults’ benefit. But when you start watching Frozen every day (multiple times on the weekends, if we’re being honest), it starts to chip away at your sanity. I’ve now asked my husband to warn me before he presses play, as the film’s opening grunts of greater Arendelle’s ice workers (“stronger than one, stronger than 10, stronger than a hundred men”) now elicit heart palpitations. But that has nothing on “Let It Go,” the Elsa (Idina Menzel) anthem that’s so painfully catchy, Frozen’s director has apologized to parents for the song.
“It came on at an outlet mall when I was shopping last month, and I turned to my stepsister and asked, ‘Is that really playing or is it just in my head?’ ” a former colleague and mother of two once told me.
For adults—and not just parents, but extended family members and Disney aficionados alike—watching Frozen has sparked confusion, raised questions, and inspired enough critical dialogue to launch a senior seminar. Why doesn’t Elsa just tell Anna about her beautiful yet treacherous ice powers? And what kind of “flex arrangement” are the trolls suggesting between Anna and Kristoff, exactly? Here, 10 thoughts adults have had while watching Frozen. Again.
1. The king and queen’s dysfunctional parenting philosophy, “conceal, don’t feel,” sets up their daughters for disaster. “If they had just taught Elsa how to deal with her power in the first place, this damn movie would be a whole lot shorter,” a friend and father of two once observed. “I blame them for everything.” They never lived to see Elsa’s ice castle, but it’s an architectural masterpiece, truly. A savvier parent would have had Elsa tested for gifted and enrolled her in a progressive preschool.
2. Where are Kristoff’s parents? He’s evidently been working the ice floes since toddlerhood, with Sven (a reindeer) serving as his only companion. Disney’s orphan problem is well documented, but it’s new to suggest a character never had parents in the first place.
3. Were there really no Mrs. Potts or Lumiere types to keep Anna company while she was estranged from Elsa? When Anna is rushed back to Arendelle after Elsa freezes her heart (no spoilers, that would be impossible), a gaggle of palace staffers ushers her inside. Who are these people and where have they been for the last 20 years?
4. Elsa chastises Anna, rightfully, for falling in love and getting engaged to Hans in the space of a single day. But then Anna appears to fall in love with Kristoff in the same time frame and no one raises an eyebrow.
5. On the topic of Kristoff: Why was Jonathan Groff, one of the greatest Broadway stars performing (currently playing King George in Hamilton), cast to voice him but wasn’t given a single song to sing? The two-line, off-key “Reindeers Are Better Than People” ditty doesn’t count.
6. It’s curious that when Elsa finally embraces her powers and finds herself (cue “Let It Go”), she appears to unleash . . . Elizabeth Berkley in Showgirls? I’m all for owning one’s sexuality, but I suspect her seductive hip-swaying was created by that same Disney animator who drew a hidden penis on the VHS cover of The Little Mermaid.
7. Elsa’s fear of hurting Anna is so crippling and so all-consuming that she spends her life as a recluse. But in a single careless moment in her ice castle, overcome by their awkward spoken-word duet “For the First Time in Forever,” she turns her back on Anna, strikes her in the heart, and doesn’t even notice?
8. Elsa’s moral compass is deeply questionable. Children seem to gloss over the queen of Arendelle’s ethical failings (owing to the subliminal mind control, most likely), but adults like my friend Andrew, father of one, see the truth. “Elsa is a pretty terrible human,” he said. “She’s content with the whole realm freezing to death.” Karlo, a former colleague and a father of one, also cannot get past Elsa’s narcissism. After Anna explains to Elsa that she’s caused an eternal winter, Karlo explains that “her reaction is entirely egocentric. She sings, ‘I’m such a fool, I can’t be free,’ ” he said. “That really annoys me—no regard for the damage she’s caused.”
9. During Anna and Kristoff’s visit to the trolls’ den, one sassy troll, who is attempting to set them up, suggests that Anna and Hans’s engagement is a “flex arrangement.” (The setup leads to one of my 2-year-old’s favorite lines, in which one baby troll says, “I don’t see no ring.”) Are the trolls advocating for an open marriage between Anna and Kristoff?
10. One thawing hug with Ice Sculpture Anna and Elsa has seen the error of her ways? As happy as we all are about this resolution (especially as it indicates the end of the movie is near), we still have some concerns. “Why let some crazy recluse suddenly run the kingdom when she cannot even leave her room?” asked my aunt, a frequent Frozen viewer. Frozen 2 will presumably answer this question. Its release date is yet to be announced. Filmmakers, I beg you, take your time.

Bipartisan legislation introduced in Congress on Monday calls for creating an independent, 16-member national commission on security and technology challenges.
Including its two House and Senate sponsors, the legislation has eight co-sponsors in the Senate and 16 in the House. Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.), a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, and House Homeland Security Chairman Michael McCaul (R-Tex.) are the principle sponsors.
The commission would have two members drawn from each of the following fields: cryptography, global commerce and economics, federal law enforcement, state and local law enforcement, consumer-facing technology, enterprise technology, the intelligence community and the privacy and civil liberties community.

Hound, a voice search application from the creators behind SoundHound, has been released today for iOS. Hound’s application focuses on bringing users quick, accurate voice driven search results in a way I only wish Siri could. Implementing Google Now-style cards, Hound’s interface is direct and to the point. Users are presented with a list of similar topics they can search for, and even given examples of the complex queries Hound can handle.
Last weekend, well before I had a chance to speak with Kilo Kish, née Lakisha “Kish” Robinson, dispatches from her surreal listening party began surfacing on my Instagram feed. Those who came out to preview Reflections in Real Time, her follow-up to 2014’s Across, described the scene at Los Angeles’s Soho House in enigmatic terms: a mermaid casually reclining on a couch, a clown eating pizza in the adjacent corner, and a girl dropping rose petals as guests arrived. It was certainly a new approach and a rare peek into the often-curious mind of the 25-year-old musician and budding fashion entrepreneur.
The album itself is a contemplative project that tackles Robinson’s developing stance on various subjects she’s dealt with over the past two years: from confidence, on “Age + Self Esteem: A Funhouse Mirror,” to gossipy conversations overheard at fashion parties on “Collected Views From Dinner.” Sure, her trademark breathy vocals are ever-present, but the lyrics are a bit more meditative and her delivery more theatrical, which is evident both in the music and in the dreamlike video for her song “Existential Crisis Hour!”
“When I first started working on the album, I made up a bunch of different topics, like what fears I had, what I felt about self-esteem, what I felt about technology, what I felt about God, what I felt about growing up,” she says by phone from L.A., her home for the last two years. “I tried to be as real about my feelings as possible on all of the different subjects.” She focused on creating something honest—no matter how scary the results. “I would write the songs and I’d be like, ‘Oh, maybe I should take that out.’ Any part I felt hesitation about, I just kept it in.”
Photo: Emmanuel Olunkwa
To accompany this ambitious musical project comes a new look for Robinson, which the album’s cover art captures beautifully. In an expressive black-and-white portrait, recalling a Cindy Sherman film still, the onetime FIT textile major has traded in her Afro and joyful collision of prints for a sleek mane and matching turtleneck with gold hoops. The effect? Very Sade, but as she says, the look is hardly new for her—and ultimately, it’s a practical move. “I’ve just been working on the record with the producer, Ray Brady, alone, so I haven’t been out as much. But to be honest, the only reason I have straight hair is because it’s so much easier—I am running around a lot because I’m also starting a brand!” Cutting down on mirror time, she explains, helps allow her to focus on Kisha, her newly minted lifestyle brand, which is set to debut later this spring.Last summer saw the unveiling of her capsule collection with Maison Kitsuné, but Kisha will be Robinson’s own doing. Inspired by Japanese minimalism, she aims to collaborate with local artisans and venerated brands to create well-curated home products and apparel basics—tote bags, socks, the perfect striped shirts. It’s all part, she says, of fulfilling her personal quest to design the perfect uniform. “I feel like the older I get and the more designing that I do, the simpler I keep my actual look,” she explains, laughing. “I understand now why designers are always coming out on the runways in a black shirt and pants. Once you start making everything, you really respect the simplicity of having a uniform!”
Recently she donated about half her closet to Goodwill, freeing up plenty of space for those essential uniform components and to realize her next big plan, which we’ll likely see her sport both on the street and in concert. “Over the next year I want to redesign the rest of my wardrobe, making dresses that I want in, like, five different colors. I want to do a uniform for the stage, too!”
